Several years ago, I finally bought a wood lathe (that I had wanted since I was a kid!). Lots of chips and sawdust later, I got fairly proficient and started turning pens to give to young men when they achieved the rank of Eagle in Scouting. I told them that they were receiving a very special gift and that no one else would have a pen exactly like the one I gave them (since I most likely couldn't duplicate it)! The Eagle rank is something only 1-2% of Scouts ever achieve, so they are a rare breed of young men who deserve a special gift.
I fell in love with the turning process which reveals the color and grain patterns in each piece of wood and have been making pens and other turned items ever since.
Pens need only a small piece of wood (around 5" long and 3/4" square). After drilling a hole in the blank and gluing in a tube for the body of the pen, I can turn a fountain pen, roller ball, or more common ball point pen that is a unique and one-of-a kind writing instrument. While many of my items are made for general sales, some come from particular woods provided by customers, or are a custom order for a specific type of pen that is meaningful to the customer. I have made wood from wine barrels, ancient bog wood (More than 5,000 years old), and from trees that fell in peoples yards that were meaningful to them. I have also used woods from around the world that have incredible grain patterns and colors inside. I never know what is inside a piece of wood until it is spinning on my lathe and the final design starts to emerge.
I create hand made craft items turned one at a time you can enjoy for years to come. If you ever encounter a problem with my products, I will fix or replace them as needed–you only pay shipping. I'm also always available for custom wood working or with wood that is special to you!
I would like to thank all of my new and repeat customers who came to any of the Holiday Shows I participated in last year. While new customers are great, repeat customers are even better because they expressed the delight in my items from previous shows and told me how much their family and friends appreciated the items they purchased. I enjoy turning items and hope to please existing and new customers for quite some time. I am always learning new techniques to improve my craft and learning how to create new items as well!
